Although Mercury does not officially go retrograde until June 26th, the influence begins today. This is because once the planet of communication begins to go backwards in the sky, it will retrograde back to the degree at which it is today, namely 13.23 Cancer.
Once Mercury goes direct on July 20th, its screwy influence will continue to operate until it reaches the degree at which it went retrograde, (on June 26th), namely 23.06 Cancer, on August 3rd. And you thought it was bad enough that Mercury goes retrograde 3 – 4 times a year, right? Of course the effect is strongest on the day it goes retrograde and the day it goes direct, the further away from those days that you get the less troublesome is the impact.
It is a very good idea not to sign contracts or open new businesses during Mercury retrograde. One of my friends opened a yoga studio under a retrograde and deeply regretted it. It’s kind of like having built-in Gremlins, everything is just never right. One year I was returning on a flight from Europe on the day Mercury went direct. It took me two days to get home and a week to get my baggage.
Of course sometimes you have no choice. Once I had to move apartments during a retrograde and it was a disaster. The purchase of electronics is a real no-no. On the plus side old friends often return to your life, and it is OK to start a job if it is one you are returning to.
