Mars goes its own way in all things, and its Retrograde cycle is no exception. It retrogrades approximately every two years and two months, (just when you thought you were immune to losing all your oomph), and does not move consistently from sign to sign in this cycle but favors retrogression in the signs of Cancer, Leo, and Virgo, and avoids Sagittarius and Aquarius. However, Mars Retrograde happened this morning at 5:14 AM PDT in the sign of Sagittarius. The last time Mars retrograded in Sagittarius was May of 2001, right at the end of Sagittarius moving direct at 15° in mid-July. This Mars Retrograde cycle will move back into Mars’ traditional ruling sign of Scorpio on May 27th. Mars will go direct again at 23° Scorpio on June 29th. Mars is our yang energy, our desire nature, the get up and go part of us that makes us initiate and take action, leads us to lead, enables us to express our unique self and will. All of this ceases and like a river flows backwards, or downwards in this case into the unconscious. This can precipitate a crisis between being and doing. Mars Retrograde is an excellent time to explore our aggression towards ourself and others.
More on Mars Retrograde
With Mars in Sagittarius, the focus could be on sports, foreign travel, and philosophy and religion. Once Mars moves back into Scorpio the drama intensifies and the emphasis is on the struggle for survival and the ruthless desire for power. The return of the repressed is another manifestation of Mars Retrograde. Any old anger or frustration that you have been avoiding is likely to resurface now. Some incident may occur, someone from your past, or something that resembles that old incident and all of the repressed emotions and hurt may come rushing to the surface. Now is the time to deal with them. Things may come to a head on May 22nd when the Sun opposes Mars at approximately 1.47° Gemini/Sagittarius. Mercury also stations Direct that day. (We have our National Yoga Championship that day, poor planning on my part.) Alternatively, things may simmer during the entire retrograde period only to culminate at the station direct on June 29th. Traditionally this is not a good time to sign contracts or initiate new projects. It is especially inimical to lawsuits. Sometimes you have no choice in these matters, but do stay aware, and be sure to monitor your aggressive impulses. Mars is a glorious energy that makes us who we are, when it surfaces in the form of aggression, there is usually a distortion going on somewhere in the psyche. Examine where the aggression is coming from, find a direct outlet for it, and you will become your more authentic self.
The Rest of the Sky
The Moon is Void all day tomorrow after trining Mercury at 5:29 AM until entering Libra at 4:24 AM Tuesday morning. Pluto stations Retrograde early Monday morning at 12:26 AM, a heavy influence. Venus also trines Saturn on Monday brining focus and form to artistic endeavors. The Sun enters Taurus on Tuesday at 8:29 AM, we move from fiery Aries to the slow, sensuous energy of the bull. Venus squares off with Pluto at 1:52 PM the same day so stubborn confrontation is in the air. Thursday the Full Moon is at 10:24 PM, preceded by a long Void that begins Wednesday night at 11:13 PM and lasts until the Moon enters Scorpio at 5:17 PM on Thursday. Mercury enters its Retrograde Storm on Thursday as well. What a busy week! Venus and Uranus meet up Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM for some excitement and flirtation. And we round off the week with another Void on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:46 PM. Take it easy this week everyone.
