Cancer Full Moon
We begin the New Year with a Cancer Full Moon, which is also a Super Moon. That means that it is close to the earth and appears brighter and larger in the sky. The Cancer Full Moon is exact at 6:24 PM PT Monday at 11.38° of Cancer/Capricorn. This Full Moon emphasizes the Cancerian values of family and home, as well as Capricorn’s love of tradition. The Moon is in a tight trine aspect to Neptune, the planet of sympathetic understanding, and Venus, the planet of love is conjunct the Sun and sextile Neptune, infusing this moment of culmination with beauty and idealism.
The glyph for Cancer is a crab. Hard-shelled, sideways moving, clawed crabs exemplify this sensitive, and sometimes manipulative sign. The term “crabby” derives from the crabs painful pinching claws with which it holds on tenaciously, and from its difficult, circuitous circumambulation. Extreme sensitivity spawns Cancer’s defensiveness. This emotional sign must have a secure base and family unit to function fully. Sometimes they create a new family, but family they must have to thrive. Generally when a Cancer becomes manipulative and crabby it is because they feel threatened and insecure. This brings me to the question of balance that the Cancer Full Moon poses every year. How do we nurture our domestic as well as our professional nature fully? How can we find love and success without sacrificing too much of one for the other?
