Sun enters Aquarius
The Sun enters Aquarius at 1:24 PM PST Thursday afternoon. When the Sun enters Aquarius we access a new order. The sign shift into innovative, and sometimes eccentric Aquarius from serious and structured Capricorn comes as a breath of fresh intellectual energy. The Sun in Aquarius, is however, in its detriment. This means that the solar energy does not function as well in the sign that falls opposite its ruling sign of Leo. And the same day brings an acrimonious square between Mars and Saturn, (more about that below). As the Sun enters Aquarius people focus on others and their powers of observation increase. An intuitive grasp of human nature combined with a willingness to help and great sociability characterize this sign. Aquarians champion new ways of doing things and are natural-born revolutionaries. Many Aquarius Sun people achieve great success, and there is usually help from friends somewhere in their story. Some famous Aquarians include Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey, and Babe Ruth. As you can see from this list, Aquarians change the world. This sign has a special dedication to fighting for the rights of others. It may seem paradoxical that Aquarius, an air sign, has a water-bearer as its glyph, but this symbolizes sharing the life-force with others. The basis of this energy is intellectual, not emotional like water signs. Aquarius is a fixed sign, and Aquarians are often quite stubborn. They satisfy their basic security needs via friendships. Unlike Cancer, a water sign that needs a home-base and connection to family to feel secure, an Aquarian thrives on their network of friends and connection to a community. It is also important for them to have a cause or ideal on which they can focus.
Mars square Saturn
At 1:16 AM Thursday morning Mars squares Saturn for the first time this year. They will oppose each other on May 28th and square again on October 11th. This is a harsh, often violent, and frustrating aspect. When I see hard Mars/Saturn aspects in a natal chart I often find physical abuse of some kind. Ebertin says of this energy: “Harmful or destructive energy. Inhibited or destroyed vitality.” It is also often associated with death. Mars is our move forward, let’s get things done impetus, and Saturn throws up a brick wall, or a rule, or just shows up as a bully to stop Mars from getting its was. It does not bode well for Inauguration Day.
